TTT Corporation is a company that specializes in interior design and manufacturing. One major difference I noticed while touring the factory was the factory culture. The workers were wearing flip-flops and other open-toed shoes while they were cutting wood and gluing pieces together. In the United States, we emphasize the importance of wearing close-toed shoes whenever we’re using any type of tools. Another thing I noticed was the range of ages that the workers were. Some of them were easily younger than me. This made me think about how some people in Vietnam, particularly people who live in the countryside, are living, compared to the United States. Maybe some of the workers couldn’t afford to have shoes other than flip-flops or sandals. This would make sense because I also noticed how some factory workers were wearing shirts that were ill-fitting. Maybe it’s more of a common practice to send teenagers to work in factories so that they can help provide for their families.
I didn’t feel like the company was very invested in sustainability, because it seems like their main focus is building the company up. I predict that the company will have a more focused attempt at increasing their sustainability in the future when they’re more established, because they’ll have more revenue and be able to look at different methods where they can cut back on their material usage or time management.
