Vietnam Day 2: A Great TTTime!

Today we visited TTT corporation, Vietnam’s leading architecture, construction, and interior design firm. This factory, located in the industry park and spanning over 18,000 square meters, focuses on interior design. TTT mainly works on projects with 5-star hotels, and over 50% of the 5-star hotels in Vietnam are done by TTT. There is a very specific process that goes into these projects. First, TTT must work with the clients to design the interiors of the places. There was a heavy emphasis on customized furniture and how detailed the architects get in their planning process. After this, TTT produces the furniture in the facility. The final step to this process is the implementation of the furniture. If the client is located in Vietnam or other Southeast Asian countries, a team from TTT will travel to the location and install the product. If the client is located in Canada or the United States, TTT only ships the customized furniture.

TTT focuses on sustainability because of all of the qualifications that countries require for their buildings. Since TTT’s clients are in different countries, their process to fulfill sustainability requirements changes from project to project. Interestingly enough, the presenter talked about how sustainability qualifications benefit the company. In Vietnam, the government subsidizes their projects based on its sustainability. Though sustainability was important to TTT, the company did not focus on it as much as I expected. Many of their sustainability practices were due to regulations and necessary qualifications rather than the desire to be sustainable. When walking through the factory, I was fascinated with the constant action and coordination between all of the different sections of workers. Surprisingly enough, the factory was not at capacity. The project manager told us that Vietnam was going through a slight dip in its economy and usually the factory would have up to 500 workers working there at a time. It was an amazing site visit because we were able to watch production happen and have the perspective of a project manager at the same time. This first site visit has me very excited for all of the site visits yet to come! These experiences and new perspectives will be the foundation of my future business ventures!
