We got up bright and early and had breakfast before departing for Neuschwanstein castle! Myself and everyone on the trip was extremely excited for today. It was over an hour drive, but after some good naps we reached Neuschwanstein. Seeing the castle from a distance and getting closer and closer was a really amazing experience. We went into the village below Neuschwanstein and saw the beautiful lake there and walked around the village with all the fun shops before making the trek up to the castle.
After a long and hard hike, we reached the top and went out on the wooden bridge there to get an incredible view of the castle. I really couldn’t believe what I was seeing at that moment! We took some pictures and took in the view on the bridge for a while before heading to the castle for a guided tour inside. I was so excited for this, as I am fascinated by architecture and artwork. We had a wonderful tour with our guide and got to see King Ludwig II’s private quarters, music hall, etc. I loved learning about the history of the castle and King Ludwig II, as I also love history.
After the tour, we had some time to explore the gift shops and such inside the castle before heading back down. On our way, we stopped for some sweet donuts which were so good! We got back to the village and boarded the bus to go to a charming little town right outside Neuschwanstein called Fusser. We had a great lunch on our own time and got to walk around the flea market they had there.
We left Fusser after about 2 hours and started the journey back to Augsburg. On the way, we stopped in another little town with an incredible church called Wieskirche. The architecture was quite literally breathtaking. Today was a national holiday in Germany, so we enjoyed the end of a beautiful concert going on in the church. We walked around for a bit after, then boarded the bus back to Augsburg after another great day.
