Today I tried to race the Flash, and I lost. He even took it easy on me and speed walked instead of running, but I just could not keep up lol. Today I walked at 6 miles per hour, and Flash went 100 miles per hour. I am a sore loser sometimes but he’s a superhero and not a villain so I will let him win.
In the United States, school nurses are based in schools. School nurses in the United States care for individuals from elementary school all the way until high school is over. In the United Kingdom, school nurses are located throughout the community. In the United Kingdom, school nurses care for young individuals and children from the age of five to nineteen years old with the consideration of wider impacts that affect the health of these individuals. They have services that support young people and their issues. Most medical institutions in the United Kingdom use paper and pencil when charting, but they are gradually transitioning to electronics.
Who can be a specialist in immunity public health nursing (SCPHN)? In the United Kingdom registered nurses and midwives can be SCPHN. What do SCPHNs do? This role includes many roles, but the ones that stood out the most are mental and emotional health and wellbeing. Those are important in life and require a good quality of care. They also participate in the deliverance of immunizations, awareness of puberty, and health awareness.
Food poverty is a big thing in the United Kingdom. Individuals may face food poverty because of low income, low wages, and social security services and benefit sanctions. They have a hard time finding access to food banks even though it is the sixth richest country in the world. The cost of living crisis further influences this issue of food insecurity. A lot of individuals can not afford food because it is expensive. Many people from the United Kingdom face financial problems that limit their access to food. This is surprising given that there are many restaurants around the United Kingdom, but they are not all accessible. In the United States, food poverty is way higher. There is a concern about running out of food when serving the community.
After the lecture about school nurses, we had a lecture on mental health nursing in Birmingham and the United Kingdom. Mental hospitals in the United Kingdom are not much different than the facilities in the United States. They are still facilities with prison-like tendencies. They still have limited access to certain things and they are not allowed to act, do, or say certain things. The United States is the most medicated country in the world, which may be because the government withheld information about medication and whether or not it is harmful.
The East Indian Company began in a coffee shop in the 1600s. 200 years later, in 1800, the company was collecting taxes in Bengal, the richest city then. The Indian army had 200,000 soldiers that took over the United Kingdom’s 100,000 men army. Since they decided to grow poppy instead of food, 3 million people died from starvation. This helped with the mixing of the ethnicities in the property.
Birmingham is the United Kingdom’s first minority-majority city with a very diverse population. Indians make up 2.5%, Asian or British make up 38%, pakistin make up 5.9%, Black British, Caribbean, or African ethnicities make up 11%, mixed people make up 5%, and Hong Kong make up 4%. The remaining 45% of the population is white, which is surprising because white individuals usually make up most of an area’s population if not all.
We also were lectured by psychiatrists and doctors. Psychiatric drugs are not recommended as much because long-term use of this medication can lead to neurological complications. The narrative is that psychiatric drugs are effective by getting rid of underlying illness discomfort and correcting a chemical balance e.g., but you can further damage your brain and cause the chemical balance even more. That was the challenge of the disease-centered model, but the formulated drug-centered model states that psychiatric drugs are mind-altering and affect the body systems as well as cause chemical imbalances that can lead to therapeutic effects.
The Black Heritage Network Walk was nice. In 1948, Caribbean and other ethnicities came to support their motherland, Britain on the Windrush. The talk with Mrs. Joan, who came to Birmingham in 1966. She first became a psychiatric nurse, but then became a midwife. The medical field here in the United Kingdom was different in the past than now. Back in the day, it was more hands-on to become a nurse. In today’s time, there are now full-on exams they need to pass, but back then, they took assessments for the specific spot they wanted to work. We also learned that the healthcare here was never free, it is deducted out of their pay. This is disappointing because they make it seem as if it is completely free.
The flash may have beat me in every race and left me exhausted and tired most of the day, but when it comes to speed typing I got him beat. I can not wait to race home and see who gets in their bed and fall asleep first. Tomorrow is Friday, and we are getting closer to the end, yayyyy!!!!!!!
