Day 5 – GreenViet

Our fifth day started out by visiting GreenViet, a company that I had previously researched before I left for this trip and one that I was excited to go see. They specialize in green and sustainable building development, and use lots of computer simulation to optimize the efficiency of their projects. The founder of the company gave an intro on how to make a successful start up, and also gave insight into how his company has grown to a big name quickly. One of the most important parts to the company’s success was their commitment to sustainability and their ability to adapt no matter the project. They’ve worked on numerous very different projects and have held all to a high standard. The company also works with a variety of companies including those from overseas and in Vietnam, meaning it is equally reliant on both markets to be successful.

After the tour we went to lunch at the GIGAMALL in Ho Chi Minh City. We ate at a pizza place and then were able to walk around the 8-story high mall. The mall was mostly similar to what you would see in the U.S. with similar types of stores. On the top floor there was an arcade where we played a few games before getting back on the bus. After the mall we went back to UEF to have another Vietnamese culture class. Today’s class was on holidays and traditions, which was interesting as Vietnam has a lot of different traditions compared to those that we celebrate in the states. After the culture class we had our final Vietnamese language class where we learned more words and phrases before giving a group presentation to the rest of the class. To end our day we headed down to the river to go on a boat tour that went up and down the river at sunset which was beautiful.

Overall it was another fantastic day in Ho Chi Minh City and I can’t believe the first week is almost over.
