GreenViet is a green building consultant working for clients constructing across Vietnam. They are hired to conduct simulations to ensure minimal energy waste in new projects. This also includes integrating solar panels and other sustainable practices into large buildings. The company’s Co-founder Mr. Do Huu Nhat Quang, gave a two-hour long presentation that extensively covered GreenViet’s transition from a startup with a mission, to a serious company with an experienced team. Mr. Quang is extensively educated with an MBA and an engineering degree which gave him the qualifications to found a technical and innovative business. Primarily, the basis for GreenViet was the emerging trend of sustainable, eco-friendly construction. There was a need in Vietnam for a consultant who could bring specific green expertise to large construction projects. In the beginning, this service was mostly needed by foreign companies with stringent environmental responsibility missions. As time went on, the balance of clients shifted towards a 60 to 40 spit of international to Vietnamese clients. Mr. Quang stated that this change was because environmentalism is keenly important to Vietnam and many domestic companies are seeing how important green practices are. Vietnam is uniquely affected by global warming and rising sea levels, with parts of the Mekong Delta already seeing negative effects from rising salt water. This visit was interesting from the perspective of companies affecting climate change through direct consulting work in serious business instead of more traditional awareness charitable activities. GreenViet is another piece of the puzzle in the complicated issue of stopping climate change. Climate change and pollution stem from industry and hence they will be able to make the most direct change of course in favor of green practices.
