Today, we started off by packing up and leaving Limassol for the trip to Nicosia for our second week in Cyprus. On the way, we stopped off at Aphrodite’s Rock first. Aphrodite is the goddess of love, and the sea she swam in is supposedly magical, as if someone swims to the rock at midnight, during a full moon, and without clothes, they will be young forever. It was interesting to see all the different rock forms and the clear blue water below. It was definitely one of the more beautiful sights of the trip so far.
Next, we explored the mosaics in the ancient city of Paphos. We went to the House of Dionysus, who became rich after making wine as our tour guide explained, which had many different types of mosaic art on its floors. Most of them depicted religion and Greek mythology, with a few of them including animals like peacocks and horse, and others including wine, crosses, and other biblical notes.
Finally, we spent some free time in Pathos, which I used to explore the city. After walking around for some time, me and my friends found a spot to eat lunch after many hosts came out onto the road to try to lure us into their restaurant, something I have never really seen before, where we had some good breakfast food. Afterwards, we walked around town, stopping in various shops and watching more cats walk around along with some stray dogs. Finally, we hopped on the bus and headed for Nicosia. It was a shorter, but very informative day for our seventh day on the island.
