This morning we started off with a tour of Recoleta. I enjoyed seeing the beautiful buildings, palaces, statues, and the graveyard. I learned a good amount especially on those who were important figures during certain time periods, how they impacted society, and their stories with each of the burial sites. I was interested in the story about Rufina and how her and her mom had the same lover, and that she was buried alive. I also thought all the graves were very unique. The tour guide did a great job explaining everything clearly to us and it was interesting to get background stories of those whose graves we were seeing.
After this tour we went to the Museo Evita, and ate at the restaurant. The pasta I got was so delicious and everyone was so inviting! We then toured the museum and I enjoyed seeing all of Evitas outifts and daily things that she used. What I found most interesting was her contributions and how much of an impact she truly was on society. We learned the basis of trade unions being the start of obras sociales in Argentina as well as how Peronism was brought up. Evita disliked charity as a solution and claimed that it did not solve problems. Peronism introduced social aid to society as well as legal connotations, avoiding bureaucracy to provide aid to the government. I also not only enjoyed about learning how Peronism was related to the health care system but also how Evita brought up her own foundation within the community to contribute to the healthcare system, like her nursing school foundation. She was truly an extremely impactful women and I loved this museum and learning about her.
To finish off the night I visited San Telmo and walked around the food and shopping market. It was a lot of fun there were a lot of great stores, antiques, and food. Then I went with some friends to get pizza, it was another great day!
