The Mysterious Ticking Noise

If you don’t understand my title reference, look it up.

Today was a wonderful day. We began it by going to Blenheim Palace. We explored the palace in all of its glory. The architecture could not be more beautiful. They were having some exhibits inside that had to do with fashion, so we saw different eras of English fashion, which was really neat. There were pictures and painting that looked like pictures. It’s crazy that some of these paintings were so on point and someone once spent days creating fine details to make them look so realistic. I saw many paintings of women with long necks, which I’m assuming was not very realistic. I wonder if a long neck meant that a woman was beautiful?

We went outside the palace and explored the garden. It was stunning and very green. It’s very calming in the garden and the way it’s organized is easy on the eyes. There are many fountains and large areas of land. It looks like all those eras’ movies featuring queens and kings. We learned a lot of history behind why the garden and palace were designed the way it was.

We ended the palace with getting some gelato and soaking in some of the nice weather as we overlooked the beautiful green plain.

After the palace, we drove to Oxford to explore the college and the city surrounding. Oxford is genuinely so beautiful and there are so many stores and restaurants to eat at. The architecture there is insane, too. So much time and effort must have been put into designing these structures and they’re all still standing in great condition. I bought a few items from the little shops around the college. The city is a mix of a college and tourist city for both to enjoy. We went into the Christ Church College and WOW. This college was the filming location for some of the most famous Harry Potter scenes. We got to see the famous dining hall from the film, which was a lot more underwhelming than I expected, but still beautiful. We also got to see the steps in which Harry, Ron, and Hermione first met Professor McGonagall. I was crazy fan-girling but I was also absolutely in love with the design of the college. It really does look like Hogwarts and I’m so jealous of the students who get to take their classes here every day.

When we left the college we got to explore a little bit more about Oxford and some historical sites in which famous books were written. For example, one of my favorite movies, “The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe”, which was written by C. S. Lewis, there’s a scene where the character Mr. Tumnus meets Lucy for the first time at a lamp-post. We saw the infamous post where Lewis was inspired as a child. This was very important to me because this movie was a huge part of my childhood and seeing a part of it in person made me feel nostalgic.

I really enjoyed the tour we took today and especially by our tour guide, Tim. Tim may be one of my favorite characters on this trip. He seems to know everything and he’s able to give us information in an entertaining form.
