Today we started as usual in the hotel, after breakfast we met at 8:30am for departure to Assan. At Assan, we toured a Hyundai manufacturing plant and then in the afternoon, the TK Elevators facility. Each was certainly educational and equally interesting. Before each of the visits, we stopped for lunch. The lunch set up was interesting. Never before have I had to be instructed on how to eat food correctly. Culturally, this was a unique experience. There was a hot soup served with frozen raw beef on the side. Once the soup is boiling, you are supposed to put the beef in and it cooks it almost instantly. The beef was very flavorful since it was cooked in the soup. After we ate we took the bus to Hyundai. This was one of the coolest visits to a company I have ever been on. Practically everything was automated. The machines were each several tons and several hundred thousand if not millions of dollars. Hyundai can crank out the exterior of a car in under a minute. At this plant alone, they produce 1,100 cars each day. After Hyundai, we took the bus to TK Elevator. The most impressive part of the facility was the testing location. It was a forty story building built strictly for testing elevators. We toured the plant and partook in some of their fun safety training. We were dropped into a foam pit from about ten feet in the air then, we were hoisted up in the air on a harness and then dropped so that the harness would catch us. After the company visits I went bowling with my friends which was a much different experience than in the States. The bowling alley was much less lively compared to American bowling alleys. Additionally, the screens did not make outlandish graphics whenever you got a strike, spare, or gutter ball. Nonetheless, this was a very fun day full of new experiences which I enjoyed thoroughly.
