The Innovation of Korea

Today we continued our company visits in South Korea. Today we visited HY and the Samsung Innovation Museum. HY is a leading producer internationally and nationally in probiotic yogurts in both liquid and solid forms. The Samsung Museum showcases a wide variety of technological and electrical advances that have led Samsung to be the global company it is today.

At HY, we were given a tour of the process that goes behind yogurt making. HY every day produces hundreds of thousands of yogurts and annually produces millions each year. Milk and other foods are shipped to the plant where they are processed for twenty days in big vats filled with the healthy probiotic bacteria. The twenty days allows for the production to be suitable for consumption. The plastic containers used are also produced at the plant where raw materials are processed and shaped into the container shape. Afterwards, the liquid yogurt is placed into the containers and shipped to consumers across the peninsula and world.

At the museum we were given a brief historical lecture on how Samsung became the company it is today. We first discussed the history of electricity and how it was discovered and utilized by scientists such as Edison, Faraday, and Coulomb. Next we toured the history of Samsung, which included the advancement of the microchip, production of color and high quality television, and advancement of the digital phone and smart phone technology. Later we toured the current Samsung innovations being implemented into homes across Korea and across the world. This included smart homes which control heating and lighting at the touch of a button, smart sound, which amplifies the viewer experience of an electronic device, and smart fridges, a fridge that connects to the internet and can help you make recipes and grocery lists.

Overall, my understanding of smart systems and growing technology has improved since coming to Korea. I am finding new ways that technology makes our lives easier and will help us in the future and as a result I look forward to being in that new generation of students leading the way.
