Buddha’s Birthday

After visiting four companies over the last two days, today was less formal and more relaxed. First, we hopped on the bus at 8:45am and drove to the Hanok village. At this village, all of the houses were traditionally built and it was a residential area. I find it fascinating that this neighborhood has become a tourist attraction. I would find it very difficult to live while tourists parade around my neighborhood on the day to day. However strange that may seem, the village is beautiful. Asian architecture is so articulate and detailed that it makes it easy to fall in love with. After some walking around Hanok and shopping we boarded the bus again and headed to Jogyessa Temple to celebrate Buddha’s birthday. There were thousands of people there, including the Korean President! The longer we stayed, the more crowded it got so we left for Insadong. At Insadong, Kay showed us the best Korean tea place. It was very authentic, we sat on the floor and had to take our shoes off. The tea was spectacular and the vibe of the place was very old fashioned. We walked around Insadong afterwards and worked up an appetite. So, we traveled to the Coex mall to see the Starfield library and grab some lunch. For lunch me and my friends ate at a Hong Kong restaurant which had delicious soup dumplings. The mall was very busy and the Starfield library was packed. Since it is rainy out, my group and I plan to finish up the final project for the class and prepare for our presentation tomorrow. So far Korea has been a blast and it has been everything I expected and more. I’m not sure if this is a city I will return to but I am so glad that this is the destination I went to and these were the opportunities that I got to experience.
