We then were able to go into different classrooms and observe the way the professors taught their students and how the students responded. I learned that the teachers are very coherent and they strengthen their voices to make sure certain words come out properly to have the students fully understand. Similar to the other college we went to, the teachers try hard to get the students to interact and confidently answer questions with the correct answer.
We got to speak to some of the students who were in a class that helped them look for jobs and prepare for the workforce. They didn’t speak the best English but they tried really hard to have a conversation with us and understand what we were asking them. They said they enjoyed being in this class and that it was helpful to them and their future.
It’s really nice seeing all the resources this school has for their students to ensure they succeed in life. We also toured some of the hands-on skills and it was honestly very interesting. It looked fun, too. We observed an engineering class, a plumbing class, and a brick layering class. I love the idea of hands-on teaching/learning because especially for me, hands-on helps me learn ten times better than other learning techniques. It reminded me of when I did my nursing assisting program in Arizona for my CNA. We did a lot of hands-on skills and even did clinical which taught me many things that I couldn’t learn by reading a book.
After college, we got on a coach and drove to London to wrap up the rest of our study abroad trip. Everyone has been recommending traveling to London, so I’m excited to have gone now. We had an alumni dinner with past Pitt students. It was nice to speak to all of them and compare our experiences studying at Pitt. A few that we spoke to had studied abroad in London and fell in love with it or even met someone. Even though I’ve only been in London for a few hours now, I can see myself falling in love with the city and considering moving here one day. It’s calming during the weekdays and the people seem nice. While I was walking back to my hotel, some girl stopped me, I think she was American, and she complimented my romper.
I’m so excited for tomorrow as we get to go to the Florence Nightingale Museum and then Mamma Mia during the evening. We also have some free time to shop. I heard London has amazing thrift stores, so I’m definitely going to be hitting some of those up.
I can’t wait to explore more of London and blog all about it. I will be taking multiple pictures every day. Besides that, our last day in Brum was really fun and I’m glad we were given the opportunity to observe the vocational college.
