Hi everyone, Today is our last full day in the United Kingdom, and it was incredible! London is so different than Birmingham; they both have their pros and cons, but I wish we could stay in London more since it’s so massive. There’s so much to do and I’m grateful we got to do some fun things today, so here it is!
We started with breakfast and around 8:30 in the morning. This breakfast was different than our old hotels in that rather than a buffet style it was just a traditional English breakfast. The fried eggs were really good, but I still don’t think I can support beans in the morning. The tea and oats were a lot good though!
After that, everyone headed to the Nightengale museum. They couldn’t take all of us, so only the nursing students went in while me and some others went exploring around downtown London! We saw Big Ben and it was so beautiful! The Victorian architecture paired with the cool, gray skies were so pretty; nothing like I’ve ever seen before! We also got to walk through a park with a few statues including one of Winston Churchill. We also saw a huge Ferris wheel that looked super cool. Everyone said that it usually isn’t worth it because of the price and it takes really long, but I know the view at the top has to be incredible! The weather was gray with a little rain, but it wasn’t bad at all. It was the exact weather I expected when I think of London.
Finally, after asking around about that train system, we made it soho. This is a nice little area of London filled with restaurants and nice stores. Me and a few others went to pizza express, which I’ve heard great things about. I’m happy to say it didn’t disappoint! We also went into a few shops. There was a cool sports store (similar to Dick’s) that had some really nice stuff, so I bought a Tommy Hilfiger shirt. There was also a ton of little souvenir, shops, so we all got little magnets and keychains for our friends back home.
After stopping back at the hotel, everyone made their way to the theatre for the showing of Mama Mia! I’ve never been to a professional musical before, only school ones, so it was a completely new experience for me. Going in, I was pretty set on not enjoying it, since I’ve never been a fan of musicals. However, I will admit it was pretty interesting. Surprisingly, I knew a lot of the songs from Tik Tok. They’re all pretty catchy so I’m sure they’ll be stuck in my head for a while now!
Overall, it was a fun but sad day. It’s crazy to think I went from not knowing anyone, and now I’m so close with everyone! I really hope everyone keeps in touch and gets together again at Pitt! The philly kids are flying back in the morning, while me and the other Pittsburgh flight students have some extra time to visit Buckingham Palace!
