Today is our last day together and it’s simply devastating. I woke up on this fateful morning at 7:30 and looked at the dress I had pulled out the night before that could only be fit for our Mamma Mia show tonight. Begrudgingly I pulled myself out of bed when my alarm went off and pulled on my clothes. Then, I made my way through the halls of our beautiful hotel and met up with everyone for breakfast.
On the menu of our swanky hotel was a full english breakfast that included eggs, toast, beans, spinach, mushrooms, and overnight oats with a nice hot coffee to go with it. Then we grabbed our bags and headed out to the Florence Nightingale Museum. This was something that a lot of us were looking forward to as we consider her the mother of modern day nursing and many people on this trip are nursing majors. We walked through the museum and learned all about her and her life. Then we took a picture for the dean of the nursing school and moved on to exploring the city as a group.
After leaving the museum we were met with Big Ben again. The massive looming clock tower looked down at us as rain misted down from the dark sky. It felt just like the London I had come to know through TV shows and movies. We took lots of fun pictures by the tower and took in all the sites around us. The city was alive and bustling even though it was a thursday. Then we gathered up as a group and made a plan for our next couple hours.
We decided to go to Soho as a group to find food and do some shopping. The alumni at the dinner the previous night had recommended it so it seemed like a safe bet. We all boarded the tube again, which was surprisingly easy to use, and we were on our way.
Once in Soho we went to a cute little coffee shop to get food and a drink for lunch. I got an oat milk latte and we all got chocolate covered strawberries. They were super yummy but not like normal chocolate strawberries. Instead it was a cup of fresh strawberries with melted chocolate on a fountain poured on top. I had never had these before but they were so yummy and we all really enjoyed them.
After some shopping we jumped in an Uber and went to dinner right next to our theater. We rushed through our pizza and then got ready to use Mamma Mia! This is something that I’ve been looking forward to for the entire trip. Mamma Mia has been one of my favorite movies/shows for a long time and I always jump at a chance to watch it again. It was beautifully performed and everyone seemed to enjoy it.
After the show we walked back and I bought a sweatshirt for myself. I’m so sad this trip has come to an end and I’m so sad I’m leaving all my new friends. I can’t wait to see them all on campus again next year!
