Today was filled with museum visits. We started the day around 1:30 and enjoyed Bagels & Bagels for breakfast. Our first visit was to Museo de Inmigrantes. Argentina’s culture developed through the variety and blending of different cultures through immigration. Immigration was prominent in the 19th and 20th centuries and became a melting pot from many different countries around the world. Argentina was a highly popular destination since it is relatively inexpensive and an easier process than the U.S. As long as you are not a criminal, you are most times granted citizenship. Immigration in the U.S. is a long and uneasy process, having to show much documentation. Argentina is viewed as a melting pot from many different places, which expanded the culture and allowed Argentina to prosper. We then visited a second museum, Museo Etnografico. This museum was very cool because we got to view many artifacts from all around the world. I liked this museum because it allowed us to interact with the exhibits and made the visit more engaging. We then headed to san Telmo to view the shops and walk around a little bit before the alumni dinner. The alumni dinner allowed us to network with two of the best doctors in Argentina who were from Pittsburgh/UPMC. Both individuals were very knowledgeable and were so proud of our passion for nursing. They provided us very helpful advice and tips to get through nursing and how nurses are so influential in the healthcare system. They talked highly about the difference in quality between nurses in the U.S. and Argentina. Our training does vary, and they talked about how much they missed working with the nurses in the U.S., which was very encouraging to hear. I enjoyed talking to them and benefitted very much so from this dinner. After dinner, we worked on our final projects and met to make sure that we had everything ready for the following day. Tomorrow we will be presenting our final projects at Universidad Austral with our peers. I am looking forward to reflecting on everything we learned and hearing the other presentations!!
