Immigrating to the immigration museum

Hola everyone! Our time in Argentina is coming to an end and we had a lighter day. I’d like to take some time and reflect on my experience. This trip abroad has enlightened me and been so insightful in so many facets of my life. First of all, experiencing the culture of Buenos Aires firsthand has been so fun. The people are so lively and full of energy. I saw this in many different situations such as at museums and seeing how interested the people are in their history, to restaurants seeing the pride that the people take in their food, to the march of the mothers seeing how active the people are in standing up for themselves and their beliefs. This trip has placed a permanent mark on my memory and inspired me to want to travel the world and explore so many more.

Moving on to our activities today, we went to a cultural history museum and the immigration museum. Something interesting was that Buenos Aires was a hub almost as big as Ellis Island in New York City. There were many people from all countries, walks of life, and professions that came to Buenos Aires seeking a new life. It was fascinating to see the replica of the boat that they came on, as it seemed almost extravagant compared to what I was expecting. However, the living conditions were far from that. There would be rooms full of over 250 people with beds stacked everywhere. The next museum that we went to was a history museum with many artifacts about what the people of Argentina wore/used thousands of years ago. Something that I learned was that much of the culture was related to the catholic church in some way or another.

Lastly, we had a great alumni dinner where I got to eat awesome of the best pasta ever! I met with 2 alumni, Luis Gustavo Podesta, and Conrad Guevara. While they are in healthcare, they both have lots of business experience so it was very interesting talking to them about this. We discussed many topics including the differences in the business behind the healthcare systems in the United States vs. Argentina. It was a great day!
