Hello everyone! My name is Sarah Pomager, and I’m studying mechanical engineering at the University of Pittsburgh. I am from Spring City, PA which is about an hour outside of Philly. I love to play volleyball and am currently an officer for the Recreational Co-ed Volleyball Club at Pitt. Even though I prefer to be playing sports, I also watch them occasionally. The Union, a soccer team from Philly, is the team I watch the most. I also really enjoy reading for fun. My list mostly consists of sci-fi or classic books.
I have enjoyed building and taking things apart for years and I want to explore my interest more by becoming a mechanical engineer. I love cars so I would love to focus on automotive engineering. Although I love how broad mechanical engineering is, I can branch off into other interests fairly easily. I want to also help stop the climate crisis, so I would enjoy learning about how to help create a more sustainable way of living or transportation.
I specifically chose South Korea over the other locations because of the culture, smart system focus, and I wanted a completely different perspective. South Korea is a complete flip from the United States, and I haven’t been out of the country before, so if I can do this, I can do anything. I am also really interested in learning about the smart systems and the companies we will visit. I am most excited for the Hyundai visit and the hiking we will do. I can’t wait to learn about Korean culture and try all the new food. Hopefully I will learn some cool Taekwondo and cooking skills to show off back at home. Furthermore, I hope to make connections with the other students and possibly make friends overseas. It will be a great experience to step out of my comfort zone and learn all about these new things.
