Setting off to Spain!

Kaixo! My name is Morgan Jackson, and I am a freshman studying Mechanical Engineering. As someone with several interests, I am very involved on campus, participating in organizations such as Engineers Without Borders, Crossfit Club, and NSBE, where I serve on their e-board. Outside of school, I love walking, and often walk 5+ miles on a trail near my house. Additionally, I love mentoring younger children, as I volunteer my time on weekends to facilitate STEM activities for students through NSBE.

I also volunteer in my community at home, as over the summer, I organized a STEM Fair for kids at my local community center. Over several weeks, I raised enough money to buy STEM kits and organized a group of high school students to teach the younger children. I have always loved community outreach and observing how children react when presented with new, intriguing information. I plan to use my skills earned from talking to patients in Plus-3 to improve my outreach efforts.

I chose to participate in the Spain Plus-3 program because I have always been interested in healthcare through an engineering lens, as I would love to know how to improve patient care by designing higher-quality machines. As someone heavily invested in their community, I would love to learn how to incorporate user input within the design process and talk to biomedical engineers in Spain on how they navigate satisfying patient concerns while complying with investor demands.

Personally, I am excited to explore Bilbao and the rich culture that the Basque region has to offer. As someone who has travelled to France and the UK, I am eager to explore another side of Europe through several cultural excursions, like cooking classes and art museums. I am also excited to meet Spanish engineering and nursing students, and learn about their experiences studying in Spain and their thoughts on Spanish healthcare.
