Hello! My name is Nikki Ditta and I am from East Hanover, New Jersey. I’ve just completed my first year at the University of Pittsburgh, studying Supply Chain Management with a certificate in Sports Management. I have one older sister and a labradoodle named Milo. I’m traveling to Costa Rica and I am eager to learn about the culture and lifestyle there.
Though I do not know much about Costa Rica’s initiatives, I am excited to learn as I spend the next two weeks there and go on tours to learn about the agriculture and sustainability. So far, I view Costa Rica as a tourist location and agricultural hub, mainly for its diverse culture and farming as well as ecosystem. The country offers a very diverse perspective, illustrating the vast opportunities for agricultural growth and immerse wildlife. I think this makes Costa Rica progressive. Their ability to take action to support their environment as well as keep the city alive and full of life for tourists is something I admire about the country and makes it impressive to see all they are capable of.
After researching a few major initiatives relating to Costa Rica’s sustainability, I learned that Costa Rica invests heavily in sustainability, ensuring that they are 98% deforestation free as well as recycling 60% of their waste. Tropical agriculture does appear, in a more broader context in terms of keeping the land healthy for growing food. Costa Rica is currently home of one of the most diverse ecosystems and high levels of biodiversity, allowing a balanced ecosystem and support of life, in terms of plants, fruits, and animals.
As said earlier, I am eager to go to Costa Rica and learn about the culture and increase my knowledge in their supply chain operations. They prioritize their coffee, banana, and pineapple production and learning about the system behind their agriculture and trade is interesting. Being that Costa Rica is also enriched in biodiversity and tourism, I am excited to see the natural beauties the country offers such as the waterfalls, volcanoes, and animals, as well as the food and traditions.
