When we woke, we had breakfast in the hotel and then got on the bus for a ride to Hwaseong Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage site. At the fortress, we walked around and visited the wall and some of the entrances to the fortress.
As shown in the picture to the left, the fortress ceilings had amazing artwork. The subjects of the pictures were dragons, which they believed would protect them against their enemies. Also, at the fortress, the group got to practice our archery skills. This was one of the more spontaneous moments of the trip; this wasn’t initially planned.
After the fortress, we returned on the bus and moved to the Samsung Headquarters, just outside Seoul. We got a tour of Samsung’s history and the products that it has made over the years.
After our trip to Samsung, we returned on the bus to the Myeong-dong shopping district. This district is full of many shops, high-end and local stores, and some amazing street food. There, we were given a couple of hours to look around and shop before returning to a restaurant for a Korean Welcome Dinner.
After the shopping district, we went to the Welcome Dinner for our group. We were joined by three Pitt alumni, two who are stationed here for the US Army and one who lives in South Korea. We got to talk to them about Pitt and their experiences. After the welcome dinner, we went back into the shopping district, finished off our day trying new things, and then went back to the hotel.
