Day 3: Peeking into Employee Quality of Life

The arrival to UEF was similar to yesterday as we got up to the ninth floor began our lecture on the green development in Vietnam. Some of the points that resonated with me most in the lecture were that Vietnam was trying to go more green because they wanted to lower costs and have a better image. If Ho Chi Minh City goes green, then more companies outside of the city will want to work with them because they see that they are developing positively and that they are going to be loyal. Also, being green helps preserve the natural resources that Vietnam has to offer, which also lowers the costs of things and it just makes the company better as a whole.

After the class and lunch, we headed over to the FPT Software building and it was much more impressive than GreenViet yesterday, mostly because it’s a much larger company with many more employees. What impressed me the most was how beautiful the campus was and how relaxed everyone seemed. A large focus of FPT was employee happiness and you could really see it everywhere you went. There was a lot of collaboration and everyone seemed really connected and welcoming, making it seem like a really great place to work. They also talked about how people like coming into work everyday just because it’s such a friendly environment where people can relax and work together with low stress. We then had a lecture for an hour with FPT and it was really helpful for me because this is the company that I’m going to be presenting on for the final day. The best part of the presentation for me was the end where we were able to ask our own questions. This helped my group dig deeper and really figure out what makes FPT so great compared to other software engineering companies.

Day 3 was really helpful for me because the history class, language class, and FPT Software visit, all helped me to dig deeper into the Vietnamese culture and keep me interested in what is going to come in the days to come.
