It’s hard to believe it’s already Day 5 and we leave Amsterdam tomorrow. It feels like just yesterday I was jetlagged and taking my first pictures of the canals and crooked houses. As the days go by, each day has been filled with amazing new experiences that I will never forget.
To begin our day, we visited the Anne Frank House. This experience was both powerful and deeply moving. Walking through the Secret Annex and getting to see where Anne and her family hid during World War II truly brought her diary to life. The museum does a remarkable job of telling her story and educating visitors about the history of the Holocaust. This museum left a lasting impression on me – one that I will never forget.
After the unforgettable tour of the Anne Frank House, we headed off to the Albert Cuyp Market. According to many, the Albert Cuyp Market is biggest and busiest market in all of Amsterdam. There are over 260 stands that offer a true taste of Dutch culture. The market offers everything from fresh produce to seafood to clothing, accessories, and souvenirs. For lunch, I had loaded fries at Ranchi Amsterdam located in the market. These fries were delicious with toppings of chicken, scallions, and pickled red onions. Visiting the market was a great way to experience a more casual, everyday side of Dutch culture.
To finish up our day, I had the wonderful opportunity to eat dinner with Pitt alumni at Pacific Amsterdam & Sharing Plates. It was an incredible experience to be able to talk and connect with professionals who were once in my shoes. I gained insightful information about their different fields and heard stories about their times at Pitt. Dinner was not only a chance to network, but a reminder of the strength and reach of the Pitt community.
