Today we headed to Munich and started the morning a little differently by taking a train instead of our usual bus. The train was super crowded so we all had to stand for the entire ride which made for an interesting start to the day. It was definitely not the most relaxing trip but it felt like a real city experience.
Once we arrived we jumped into a two-hour walking tour of the city. We started at the town square just in time to see the Glockenspiel show that happens every day at 11 a.m. That ended up being my favorite part of the day. The music and movement of the statues were so beautiful and the building it’s on is stunning. It felt like something out of a movie.
After the tour we got lunch at the original Hofbräuhaus which was cool to see in person after knowing there’s one back in Pittsburgh. The place was loud and full of energy and it felt very authentic. We spent the afternoon doing some light shopping trying to find the perfect souvenirs to bring home. It was fun wandering around and seeing all the little local shops.
One of the highlights for me was climbing up into St. Peter’s Church where I got to see the whole city from above. The view was incredible and I could even see a small glimpse of the Alps in the distance. It was definitely a bit scary being up so high but totally worth it.
We ended the day with dinner at a burger place which honestly hit the spot after trying so many new dishes this week. It was comforting to have something familiar and the food was really good. After dinner we made our way back to Augsburg on a less crowded train and finally got to sit down for the ride.
Munich had such a different vibe from Augsburg. It was so much more fast-paced and full of energy but it was great to explore for the day and see a new side of Germany.
