I got to do a lot today and enjoyed every moment. We took a train to The Hague and had some free time before our scheduled event at the Peace Palace. We were lucky enough to make it to the Mauritshuis which is a museum that houses artists like Rembrandt, Vermeer, and lots of other famous art paintings like The Goldfinch and Girl with a Pearl Earring. It was great getting there soon after it opened because it started to get really crowded after we left. I continue to learn more about the Dutch culture through these paintings and other works of art from common buildings to famous artwork. We walked to meet up with the group for lunch but also saw a couple sights along the way. I got to try Indonesian food for the time when I got Trio fried noodles with chicken. I thought it was okay, but not very filling. I’m glad I got to try some of the many cultural foods The Netherlands offers because of its very diverse population.
Our next stop was The Peace Palace. It was an amazing sight to see and learn about from the visitor center. The most shocking thing I learned was about Andrew Carnegie. He funded and incorporated a lot of his time into this Palace, which I don’t think I have learned before or at least not been able to understand. Learning about its startup, different groups within the Palace, and its educational library for international law students, was really informative for just the short time we were there following the tour audio. It was a very interesting and cool thing to see!
Our location was very close to the ocean, so of course we had to go to the beach at the start of our free time. It was a cold, gray, and windy day, but it was still amazing getting to see the beach and its attractions like a pier with a Ferris wheel and a bungee jump. I got to collect a couple shells and then we treated ourselves to some gelato. It was a great day of exploring the city more and a great day to spend with my friends!
