Day 8 was a successful day might I say! We first started out the day with breakfast at 9:30 and then hopped in a cab to head over to La Boca. We shopped around getting leather merchandise, postcards, and other fun trinkets. We took many pictures and walked around the town before heading back to the hotel to meet with IES for a walking tour of Recoleta. Our tour guide took us around Recoleta showing us Plaza San Martin. Through the walk, we headed our way to the Recoleta Cemetery where many people were buried including well known figures of Argentina. Many including Eva Peron, wife of San Martin, Rufina Cambaceres, former presidents, and many more. Recoleta held a big craft market where many small vendors were selling their handmade products, this allowed us to be involved in their culture which was so interesting!
Role of Peron and the Development of the Healthcare System:
Juan Peron played a major role in the development of the Healthcare system. In 1950, he hired the minister of health which then created the public system. Many hospitals were built Buenos Aires, a high populated location. Peron helped the people by creating this public system that was accessible to all so they could gain the attention and care needed. Under his presidency, many hospitals were built across Argentina. He believed healthcare was a human right in which he helped many of those in the working class and those who were not able to afford. Essentially, everyone receives the care that they need, hence the free public hospitals and clinics. His wife, Eva Peron, also known as Evita, aided in the development of the healthcare system by the Eva Peron Foundation. This foundation she created included free resources like toys and school supplies for children, medical supplies for the sick, and much more. In addition, she greatly impacted the women of Argentina, specifically nurses as she gave them better training, jobs, and recognition. Overall, the Juan Peron and Evita helped the people of Argentina. Juan Peron built a strong foundation in healthcare by focusing on issues like social injustice, workers’ rights, industrialization, and more.
