Over the past two days, we have learned much about former president José Perón and his advancements in Argentina’s healthcare system. One of the major advancements Perón led was the expansion of government-run health care. Perón greatly increased the infrastructure of public healthcare throughout all of Argentina by building more hospitals and clinics to increase the accessibility for Argentine citizens. He especially focused on increasing the accessibility within the city of Buenos Aires.
Perón also paved the way with the implementation of free healthcare within the public healthcare system. This implementation made healthcare rights for citizens, allowing them to have access to healthcare regardless of their income or social class. Additionally, Perón empowered unions heavily within healthcare. Perón strengthened unions significantly, allowing them to provide healthcare to their members. This allowed workers to have better access to healthcare, and established the union-based healthcare system in Argentina.
We’ve seen how José Perón played a major role in shaping Argentina’s healthcare system. By expanding public healthcare infrastructure, making healthcare free, and empowering unions to support their members, Perón made healthcare more accessible for all citizens, especially the working class. His efforts laid the foundation for the healthcare system Argentina has today, showing his lasting impact on the country.
