Today, we visited the Vassiliko Cement Works Company. This is a company that was established in 1963 and had their first production in 1967. What stood out to me the most was how incredibly successful and self-sufficient the company has become over the years – they use about 25 billion pounds of concrete annually! Vassiliko is an amazing example of a vertically integrated company, considering that they manage nearly every stage of their production process. From raw material grinding and flash drying them on-site, to selling their finished product in bulk and in bags, the company handles it all internally. Not only that, but they also operate their own quarries and private port, allowing them to control the supply of materials as well as the distribution of their final product. This also allows for them to not rely on other outside suppliers for materials, such as limestone. It is clear that their process throughout the years has allowed them to maintain a consistent quality and high efficiency over their costs and logistics on a day-to-day basis. I even noticed the amazing hospitality and warm welcomes from employees of Vassiliko, and it really stood out to me. They are an amazing company, and they work with even more amazing individuals! Another way Vassiliko operates to a fair degree as a vertically integrated company is the way they also act as a retailer to their customers. Sometimes, they will have their customers come in person and at this point will then package their product in bags or in bulk. It was a really cool experience being able to experience such a powerful company, especially because cement is the 3rd largest exporting product of Cyprus. Vassiliko has for sure been one of my favorite company visits so far – and I cannot believe we have only 3 days left in Cyprus! Following Vassiliko, we visited St. Lazarus Church and Hala Sultan Tekke. Both of these site visits were incredible. I have never experienced anything so beautiful! I also loved how many cats and kittens there were outside of Hala Sultan Tekke, it was adorable! Today was a busy, but super great day!
