Day 9: Hoerbiger and Oberammergau

Today, we had an early start on visiting Hoerbiger. This company visit started off with a presentation. What stuck out to me the most from not only this presentation, but also the whole company visit, was that they are making valves to help babies who were born preterm. I think that this is a great and innovative path that they are taking. After this presentation, we split into groups and had a factory tour. The factory was very clean and we had to wear shoe coverings and jackets. After this, we took the bus to another one of their factories a couple of minutes away. This factory was different from the first one because it was slightly dirtier and less robotic than the first one. At this factory, we learned about how they make gears using their machines. After this second tour, we ate lunch that they provided for us and then listened to two more presentations. It was a long but very informative day. After we left the factory, we went to Oberammergau. The drive to the town was so beautiful already. When we got there, we took a gondola up the mountain. At the top, we could see all the way to the Alps, which was amazing. It was one of the most beautiful views I’ve ever seen in my life. On the other side, we could see more mountains and the town at the bottom. On a clearer day, we were told we would be able to see Munich. We admired the views for a little bit and then went back down the mountain on the gondola. We had a little bit of free time to go explore the small town. First, we got ice cream and then wandered around a little bit and shopped. It was the cutest town I’ve ever seen, and I would love to go back there someday. It was an overall great day and I enjoyed seeing the views.
