Vassiliko Cement really cements its place as a powerhouse by doing it all—from rock to dock—under one roof. Based on what I observed this morning, Vassiliko Cement Company operates as an extremely vertically integrated company, managing nearly every stage of its production process in-house. From the initial mining of raw materials (they have 5 quarries) to crushing, pre-blending, grinding, and eventually producing and storing cement, each step takes place within their expansive facility. The factory’s complex machinery and seamless coordination between stages highlighted how difficult it would be to rely on third parties without risking delays or communication breakdowns. Even the shipping of finished products is handled directly through their own port, which services roughly 300-350 ships per year, emphasizing their control over the entire supply chain. We ended our visit by suiting up in bright orange vests and hard hats to tour the facility, and then headed to the port where we saw a ship being loaded—making it clear just how convenient and efficient it is to have such a critical part of their supply chain located right “on-campus.”
