Today was a very busy day and we had 3 company visits. We visited Bernard Schulte Shipmanagement Training Center (BSM), Columbia Ship Management (CSM) and Medochemie. Based on visits to BSM and CSM key aspects of ship management include crew recruitment, training, technical operations, and safety. Both companies emphasize simulation-based training and strict safety protocols. At CSM, they had giant tv screens with the world map on it to to monitor ship performance and maintenance schedules. Life as a seafarer requires strong technical skills, discipline, and the ability to cope with long periods away from home, with challenges like isolation and mental health stress. I liked how at BSM, they have a company therapist to handle this specific topic of life as a seafarer. Today was very informational about the shipping part of supply chain management!
Busy day!
