Day 10: Lazy River and A Lost Shoe

What a trip! Today we left early after breakfast for our 8 hour boat ride back to the bus. We got on the boats at 8am.

My boat included Skip, Lama, Carter, and the two drivers, which was much smaller than the other boats of people because we had wooden planks, a chair, and water gallons taking up space. I had to sit on the wooden chair throughout the entire boat ride, which was comfortable for the most part but uncomfortable at times. Early on in the trip, one boat’s engine stopped working, so all of the people in that boat had to divide themselves into the other two boats that were already packed with people and their bags. I felt lucky that I was just stuck with a wooden chair I could sit on.

At 12 o’clock, we stopped at a sandbank for another tuna salad sandwhich and fruit lunch. It was very hot that I changed into shorts, and we waiting twenty minutes for the boat to return with a fixed engine. During the wait, most people decided to swim again in the river, but I just put my feet in. We got back in our boats for the second half of our ride, where I slept for the majority of it. When I was awake, I saw more turtles and even two Toucans, which were very cool. We finally arrived at the bus and loaded our belongings to return to Lyarina. Back at the lodge, I finally took a clean shower, packed up a few things, and went to dinner.

Dinner consisted of mashed potatoes, carrots, and roast beef, accompanied by a salad and pineapple. It was someone’s birthday, and we sang with BYU students and ate a coconut strawberry cake, which was a good surprise. Some of us then ended our nights on the hammocks to work on our blogs. While doing this, a big bug landed on my shoe that I screamed so loud and ended up throwing my shoe off the hammock area and down a steep hill. It was a very funny moment to us, but for now, my shoe is stuck at the bottom of the hill and hopefully it will be retrieved tomorrow when it is daylight.
