Today was probably the most uneventful day of the trip—but hey, not every day on a trip can be a home run. After breakfast, we made our way to the Oil Tank Culture Park, and unfortunately, it didn’t live up to the hype. The heat didn’t help either. Between the hot weather and the fact that there really wasn’t much to see beyond a few old repurposed oil tanks, we didn’t stay long.
From there, we headed to the district where our company visit was scheduled, but we had some time to grab lunch beforehand. Luckily, lunch ended up being the highlight of my day. I don’t remember the name of the restaurant, but I ordered a sushi platter and had fried chicken as an appetizer—it was absolutely delicious.
After lunch, we visited Seoul Waterworks HQ, the facility responsible for purifying and distributing Seoul’s drinking water. It was actually really interesting to see how water from the Han River is processed before it reaches people’s homes. The system starts with pulling in the raw river water, which then goes through several chemical treatments to remove harmful substances. After that, it’s filtered through layers of sand and gravel and given one final purification to make sure it’s completely safe. It really made me realize how much work goes into something we totally take for granted—clean water. Seeing it all up close gave me a whole new appreciation for that behind-the-scenes work.
After the tour, we headed back to the hotel to freshen up. I spent some time catching up on my blogs and getting started on our final presentation for the trip. Later in the evening, my roommate Brian and I went out for Korean BBQ (again—because how can you ever get tired of it?). After dinner, we stopped by a local mart and picked up a few snacks to bring home as little souvenirs.
Back at the hotel, we wrapped up more work on the presentation and got ready for bed. Can’t believe we’re down to our last two days here—time is flying!
