Today is the last blog post about my trip to South Korea!!! I can’t believe it’s over. I have learned so much and seen so many different things. This trip has been a blast for me.
Today was an enjoyable day. We started the day by going to an oil park, which wasn’t very interesting. We were only there for a short time before heading back. Apparently, the place wasn’t as open as it should have been. After the park, we got on the train and headed towards the day’s second activity, which was visiting the Arisu water plant in Seoul.
Prior to visiting the plant, we all went to get lunch. We tried shabu shabu, which is similar to a hot pot, and it was very good. The restaurant we went to was more buffet-style, where you went up to get the things that you wanted, such as noodles and dumplings, and then brought them back to the broth at your table and put them into the broth.
The plant we went to is one of the many in Seoul. These plants filter water from the Han River and another nearby river, which becomes the water that the citizens drink from the tap. It was interesting to see the safety measures they take to ensure that the water is safe for the citizens of Seoul and the machines used to perform those measures. They also discussed how often the government comes in and does quality checks. They said that they perform 357 quality checks and that this facility hasn’t failed them.
After exploring the facility, we got a tour of a water museum right next door. This is more of an attraction for kids, but it was still exciting to learn about the water from the plant and how it is filtered. The way it’s filtered is exciting because it used to just go through a layer of sand, and the bacteria in the sand would eat the bad stuff from the water, therefore purifying it. It seems really simple, and it actually is. I never knew that water was purified that way.
After the museum tour, we went back to our hotel. My group and I needed to take the time to finish our presentations, which we will present tomorrow afternoon.
