Plus3 Korea 5/21/25

Today we left in the morning to go to the oil tank culture park, which entailed taking a few different buses to the area near the Seoul World Cup stadium. Once we got to the park though we found out it had recently been bought out by a private company and was closed for renovations, which meant we couldn’t go into any of the buildings or much of the site at all which was  a big bummer. As a result we left for the next destination: Ttukdo Water Purification plant. Since we left early to get there we had a fair amount of free time in the area to grab lunch. I went with a small group of guys to get fried chicken, though this was done in a more traditional American style rather than a Korean kind. It was very good and made me wish that chicken restaurants back home could cook chicken as well as it is in Korea. After the chicken we still had more so we looked around for a sweet treat, we found a local gelato place and settled on that for our meal’s digestif. I got a scoop of pistachio and a scoop of green apple, which worked surprisingly well together. The gelato had a very smooth texture and was very refreshing.

It was now time to go to the water plant for a tour of the facilities. When we arrived, they explained how Seoul’s tap water is purified at six plants along the rivers passing through the city. They explained that the water goes through a multi-step cleaning process that produces some of the highest quality tap water in the world and that it goes above and beyond the published national health’s standards. We were then shown some of the tanks and machines used in the purification process at the plant. After the plant tour we were shown around the water museum which went more into the history of Seoul Waterworks and the public water infrastructure.
