Unfortunately, today was our last full day here in Cyprus. Although it is sad, I am glad that we went out with a bang by visiting St. Mina’s Monastery and Lefkara Village. We began our day by embarking on a long journey up the mountains to arrive at St. Mina’s Monastery. As soon as we walked in I noticed something that was different than any other religious site we have been to. At this site, there was beautiful artwork on the walls. This artwork was precisely detailed and added a sense of comfort to the space. After the monastery, which was beautiful from the inside and out, we visited Lefkara Village. This village was relaxing and very peaceful. The streets were filled with lots of nice stores and restaurants. More specifically, many items in these stores were those of lace. Lace is a linen like material which you could use for various different things, such as a vail. We had the opportunity to visit a lace producing and selling store in Lefkara who is the only lace store in Lefkara to be recognized by UNESCO. These pieces of lace can be any size, although the larger sizes can take up to months to complete, as they are done by hand, and can be any variation of pattern. We also got to watch a woman who worked at the store as she was making a lace, and it looked extremely difficult and tedious. Being in a beautiful monastery, and walking through a local village being exposed to their cultures and traditions was a great end to a life changing trip.
Last One Day Best One!
