So Long… And Thanks For All The Fish

Hello all, welcome to the final blog of my trip to Cyprus! Today was such a nice way to end the trip. First up on our agenda was St. Mina’s Monastery, which was most likely made during the Byzantine era. It was beautiful. There was gold all around the photos at the front of the church, and two small frescoes were on either side of the wall. The monastery also had a gallery for women to pray separately in the back of the church, which was added during the Ottoman era. Outside the church was also a small mosaic of Mary and Jesus. The tile art style looked very crisp, one of my favorites from this monastery. The second place we visited was the Lefkara Village, which was also gorgeous. The streets were very narrow, but there were flowers and plants everywhere. The buildings were so colorful and unique. There were so many open areas to sit and eat. There were also many shops selling the handmade Lefkara lace decor. One of my favorite things to learn was how the lace inspired Leonardo da Vinci’s tablecloth design in his painting of The Last Supper. They were so intricately stitched, I completely understand why he would be inspired.
