The third day we went to Nuremburg, its old downtown area and our first company to visit as well as my designated company, MAN. The bus ride to Nuremburg from Augsburg is around 2.5 hours. I felt a little bit carsick during the ride, but the view from window is really good. We went to the rathaus area first. At there we saw the famous Schoner Brunnen and Frauenkische. The plaza between them is used to hold Christmas market near Christmas. We get to see the great Sebalduskirche, but we did not get the chance to get in. Then we head our way to Kaiserburg Nuremburg. It is a pretty medieval styled castle, with a great view looking down to the city area.
Since we are behind schedule, we had our lunch in rush. we get a taste of Nuremburg special, Nuremburger Rostbratwursten. It is really delicious. Then we took the bus to MAN factory. During the factory tour we are not allowed to take any pictures, but itself is really cool. It is a production site for truck and marine engines. I expected such manufacturing to be loud, smelly and oily, but it is not. there is no irritating smell, the floor is clean and no loud noise at all.
The tour guide was saying the ICE they produce has an efficiency of over 50%, which is very impressive. The whole idea of a non-stop production line is really efficient. It is like 70% automated, workers just have to put parts together and do testing after everything is assembled.
