Day 6-castle Neuschwanstein

on

This was my favorite day of the trip by far. We got up VERY early, around 6 am, and headed out to Schlosserland, which Joni informed us means land of castles. Stepping out of the bus, the view was stunning, and I immediately started taking pictures. The area we pulled into was in front of a beautiful hotel that was established back in1844, with a painted façade and a deer head sculpture with real antlers.

The view from outside the hotel was incredible. We spent time skipping stones on the shore of the lake here, my record was 4 skips.
This castle is called papa’s castle, the castle built for Ludwig the 1st. We didn’t go inside but certainly cool to see, it has a tower at each corner that looks like a rook on a chess board.
If i added a description for every single picture with beautiful scenery from today, I would be here all day, so just trust me when I say the scenery was INSANELY fucking beautiful.
My friends and family ask me to send them this photo when I show them pictures;it looks exactly like a postcard.

I wish we could have taken pictures on the tour-the entire thing was so cool. Every single surface was covered in gold leaf and bright colors. There was a ton of biblical imagery, imagery from fairy tales and operas, and a swan motif throughout the whole castle-the chandeliers had this bizarre design where there were gold swans seemingly being restrained by the neck around the base of the chandelier. I know that sounds bizarre, but without a visual its hard to communicate. There was also a room with a buddhist wheel of reincarnation, rooms with japanese art, and a cave room with stalactites. The interior is really what makes the castle so cool,  all of the art in that humongous mansion is insanely pretty. Learning about Ludwig II was also fascinating as  hell. Basically he was executed by his family for spending his fortune on this huge castle and also being a closeted gay man, which is super tragic.

Joni was one of the best people I met on this whole trip-such a nice guy, hope to stay in touch with him for a long time.

This was my favorite location of the whole trip. The inside and outside of the castle was gorgeous and full of history and the landscape was amazing.
