Hi! My name is Aseda Asomaning, and I am a first year nursing student from Collegeville, Pennsylvania, just outside of Philadelphia. I am currently a student in the Fredrick Honors College and am pursuing a Global Health Certificate alongside my nursing degree. Growing up surrounded by family members in healthcare, I was exposed early on to their stories and experiences which sparked my passion for the field. What drew me specifically to nursing was the opportunity to work directly with patients and being able to support individuals during some of their most vulnerable moments.
My interest in nursing has continued to develop through experiences such as interning in a hospital and working as a camp counselor. These roles have strengthened my communication skills, leadership, and increased my confidence in working with diverse groups of people. I am particularly interested in critical care nursing and hope to eventually become a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist. I am eager to learn in new environments that challenge me and expand my perspective.
I chose the Plus3 Spain Study Abroad Program because I believe cultural understanding is essential to delivering effective and compassionate healthcare, which is best developed thorough firsthand experience. This program offers the opportunity to observe how different communities approach health and compare how healthcare systems vary globally. I am especially interested in the program’s integration of both nursing and engineering as it highlights the connection between patient care and innovation.
Through this experience, I hope to strengthen my cultural competency so I can better support patients and families from diverse backgrounds. I also aim to improve my Spanish skills in real world settings, expand my clinical awareness, and develop a more global perspective on nursing practice. Additionally, collaborating with engineering students will help me build interdisciplinary teamwork skills that are essential in healthcare. Overall, I look forward to growing both personally and professionally, and applying these experiences to my future career in nursing.
