Hello! My name is Emily Strick and I am a first year nursing student. I am from Lower Merion, Pennsylvania, very close to Philadelphia. I was drawn into pursuing nursing because of my own health struggles, and I want to perpetuate positive change in the field of healthcare in the same way that nurses helped me. Throughout hospitalizations the people who always advocated for me and helped my the most were nurses. I hope to provide that same experience to all of my future patients, as I have experienced firsthand the stresses that come with the healthcare system. I am particularly interested in becoming a pediatric nurse. In my spare time I enjoy reading, spending quality time with friends or family, and crafts. I love any outdoors activities, and I am SCUBA certified! I love exploring new things, and also relaxing and watching TV with friends. I do love traveling as well, but I have never been to Spain before.
I chose the Plus3Spain trip because I am very interested in the healthcare systems in other countries, and how it differs from the United States system. I am excited for this course because I also plan on completing a certificate in Global Health. Additionally, I am very interested and excited to see the interdisciplinary work of nursing and engineering. Healthcare is a very broad field, and many other fields have contributed so greatly to the diverse methods of patient care that we have today. I can’t wait to have a great time in Spain, I hope to learn so much from my mentors and peers, and bring the stories I have learned back to my own communities in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. I hope to make many great memories, and I can’t wait to get to know all of my fellow participants!
