Feta late then never

Hello! My name is Wyatt Catchen and I am from Wexford, Pa. I am a freshman engineering student at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering planning to major in mechanical engineering in the fall. I enjoy a lot of different physical activities like soccer, working out, swimming, and spikeball. Lastly, I enjoy traveling and hope Plus 3 gives me an intro into what a job abroad could look like.

I decided on going to Plus 3 Greece which is focused on the business side of engineering like supply chain management and logistics on a global scale. I have always heard stories about how amazing Greek architecture and engineering is. In elementary school I even created a Parthenon and it still stands to this day in my house similar to the ruins today. I hope to learn about how the engineers created their famous maritime infrastructure and their business logistics as well.

This program connects with my goals because its an intersection of my two worlds. My parents are both architects and I grew up seeing their various projects come together and learning about different design; however, I was just as interested in the mechanics as the result so I chose engineering. The Greece trip lets me see the logistical and business challenges of maintaining world-class infrastructure while balancing the beauty of architecture I grew up with. Like I mentioned earlier, I hope to have a job that lets me travelling and learning different cultures around the world is a stepping stone to that.
