Day 2 we had some amazing site visits. We started off early with the tulip farm. The owner of the farm took us on a tour and explained to us how the tulip industry in the Netherlands functions. Afterwards we visited a local beach and got the best fish of chips ever.
The afternoon with the floating houses a which were absolutely amazing. The owner of the first floating house gave us a great tour and explained to us the engineering and business behind starting a project of that scale. To sum it up, a great team is the start of a great project. The quality of life in the floating village was much higher than most places in America and it really showed me that not only can you live well but you can live extremely sustainably and give energy back to the grid at the same time
After that we went to the edge headquarters, which blew my mind. They design buildings that can have a below zero energy usage per square meter. The buildings have smart systems that can detect how many people are in a room and set the lights and even the oxygen percentage to the right level. They have multiple buildings in the surrounding area and in 2014 they had the most efficient building in the world with a sustainability score of ninety eight percent. Since then the rating has been changed and multiple of their buildings are much more efficient then that first main project.
