Today was the earliest wake up of the trip so far (7:00am). Safe to say I was NOT a fan, but I pulled through. After a hotel breakfast, we headed to Hospital Basturto. This hospital was GORGEOUS. There were 20 different buildings all connected by underground tunnels. As an engineer, these underground tunnels were my favorite part. The tunnels also weren’t like the tunnels you would find in America where everything is concrete and grey. These tunnels were tiled with painted walls and a cozy vibe. We also got to take a look at the generators that keep the hospital running in cases of a power outage. For example, last year, Spain experienced a nation-wide blackout, but nurses and doctors didn’t find out about it until their shift ended and they saw it on the news. That’s just how perfect the generators there worked!
After lunch at the school of engineering, we got a brief tour/walk through of the F1 racing team. To be honest, it really made me think about joining the F1 team at Pitt once the fall semester starts. After this brief excursion we were off to the Guggenheim! However, outside the museum there were stands selling soccer jerseys for just 20 Euro, so you know I had to buy two of those (including an Atletico Bilbao jersey of course). The Guggenheim itself was AMAZING. So so so beautiful. The only qualm I have about the visit is that I wasn’t able to see everything: Mid-way through my walk through of the third floor, I could feel my caffeine wearing off, and a wave of tiredness washed over me. Safe to say the 20 minute walk back was brutal and I collapsed on my bed immediately after getting into the room.
