Today was such a great way to end our first week here in Bilbao! We spent most of the day exploring San Sebastian, a small town on the Bay of Biscay. It was a stunning town on the edge of a beautiful bay with mountains surrounding the city. The bay had a large beach where people were swimming, surfing, and relaxing. The town had lots of historic buildings, shops, and delicious restaurants. San Sebastian is historically the most expensive city in Spain because it became a resort town for the upper class families of Spain and France. It maintains a lot of that French influence in its architecture. Many of the buildings were constructed in the French style or had French inspirations. While we weren’t able to actually go to France on this trip, it felt like we did due to all of the French influence in the town.
While in San Sebastian we tried some new types of pinxchos and some yummy cheesecake. Apparently San Sebastian has some of the highest rated food in this entire region of Spain. While we weren’t able to try one of the many Michelin Star restaurants in the city, the pinxchos we tried were still very good.
After visiting San Sebastian we went to a small town called Zumaia which had amazing cliff formations on the beach. These cliffs are called Flysch cliffs. Words don’t really capture the cliffs, so you can just look at my pictures instead! Multiple famous films have been shot around those cliffs, most notably Game of Thrones. When witnessing the crazy cliffs and caves, you would understand why it’s a popular spot to film.
