Shopping In Korea

Hey guys! Today was our fourth day of the trip, and we got to do lots of fun stuff! First, we took a bus ride over to Suwon Fortress to do some archery. We each got about 10 arrows to fire at the targets, and I hit the target a total of 0 times. I almost got them to stick a couple of times, but they just bounced off the target. I did not have very good luck with the archery. Once I was done embarrassing myself, we went to walk around the wall of the fortress. The wall connected the towers that would’ve been used for archery in the past, as you could see the archery windows were slanted. If somebody tried to fire an arrow into the window, it wouldn’t make it into the fortress. I thought it was pretty cool to see walls that were actually used in the past. The steps into the fortress were also insanely tall and hard to climb. I’m not sure if that is a defense feature, but whatever their purpose is, they were tall.

For lunch, my group decided to go to a chicken place where the only options on the menu were how many chickens you wanted, along with 2 side dish options. At first, I was a little worried because they handed us gloves to eat with, but the chicken was really good. We had some ttoekbokki and gyozas, which made a really good meal.

For the afternoon, we had a tour of the Samsung Innovation Museum. For this museum, you can’t go in unless you have a tour, so it was completely empty except for us. Our tour guide took us around exhibits about how electricity was discovered, the history of electronic devices, and current Samsung products. Even though it felt like we were sitting through a sales pitch, the products were all really cool. We took a look at some of their foldable phones, smart fridges, and computer monitors.

We took the bus back from the museum to Myeong-dong and were dropped off at Namdaemun market to do some shopping. It had started to rain when we got there, so we stopped by the hotel first to change and get umbrellas before setting off on our shopping journey. We decided to get some dinner in the food court of a mall, and had some really good pork stir-fry. It also came with some kimchi and soup, which I appreciate about a lot of the meals we have had in Korea, because you get good value for the cost. Then, I took another walk around the food court to see if there was anything else to get, and I saw a bakery selling a cat-shaped cake. It was soo cute and I didn’t know if I could leave him there without me, so I bought him. He unfortunately fell over before we made it back to the hotel room to eat, but he still tasted good. In search of some good skincare, we went to Olive Young, which has probably every imaginable product for makeup and skincare.

After shopping and eating, I was pretty tired, so I went back to the hotel room, and that was the end of my day! This trip is going by so quickly, but I will see you tomorrow.
