Day 1: Getting Lost in Buenos Aires

After a long day of traveling, we finally landed in Buenos Aires. Even though we were all exhausted from the flight, we were excited to finally start our trip in a new country. When we first arrived, we were welcomed with a barbecue lunch by the IES Abroad office, which was very good and a great introduction to Argentine culture. It was nice to sit down together after a long travel day. After lunch, we spent time walking around and exploring the city.

My first impression of Buenos Aires was how lively the city was. During the day, people were out walking, shopping, and sitting at cafés, and at night the city became even busier. The city felt full of life which made it exciting to explore. There was always something happening around us, which felt very different from where I’m from and made the city feel much more lively and energetic. I was also surprised by how much history is visible throughout the city. Everywhere we walked there were statues, monuments, and historic buildings that honored important figures and events. We visited Casa Rosada which is like the White House of Argentina and is where the president of Argentina resides. It was a cool sight, and they were even filming a movie in front of it when we walked past. We also saw the Obelisco which is the most iconic monument in Buenos Aires and looks very similar to the Washington Monument in Washington D.C. For dinner, some of us went to a pizza place called Pizzería Güerrín, and it was some of the best pizza I’ve ever had. Each neighborhood we explored also felt different from the next, each with its own architectural style and atmosphere, and I am excited to continue exploring the city over the next few weeks! Also, Happy Mothers Day mom! I hope that you had a great day and I can’t wait to see you in 2 weeks, I love you!
