Day 1: Touched Down in Buenos Aires

After a long and sleepless journey, we have finally made it to Buenos Aires. A 2-hour flight, a 9-hour flight, and an hour bus ride has all lead to our arrival. We were greeted by two of our guides from IES and set off on our ride to Buenos Aires. Immediately after landing, I could see the difference in how the land around the airport is used in the US and Argentina. As we were driving on the highway, we could see horse and cattle farms scattered along the highway. However, this did not last long. The city of Buenos Aires started forming with apartments jam packed next to each other. Personally, I expected to see more spread-out suburbs before the start of the city. However, it seemed like the city sprung up out of nowhere.

After this, we visited IES and had a barbeque lunch where they made a variety of different potatoes, steaks, and more Argentinian classics. This gave me an immediate appreciation for Argentinian cuisine and how they are dedicated to creating delicious dishes. After this, we explored parts of the city including Retiro and San Telmo. The architecture consisted of many older buildings that have been repurposed into different businesses and apartments. This architecture is much different than that of cities in the United States.

Finally, since it’s Mother’s Day, I wanted to say Happy Mother’s Day to my mom. Being away for Mother’s Day makes me appreciate all she does for me even more.
