First day in the UK!

We touched down in London, May 10th at around 9:50 a.m. This was my first flight that flew through the night as well as my first time out of the country. Right after getting off the plane, our group boarded a coach bus where I then took a 2 hour long nap to make up for the uncomfortable plane ride. Once we put all of our stuff in the hotel, we went to a pub where football was playing and tried to read the room and see which team the other people in the pub were rooting for. My table ordered a peperoni pizza to split amongst Della, Syd, Jordan and I. After ordering, I realized the lemonade here tastes a lot different then back in the U.S. It tasted more like a “watered down Sprite” with little to no sugar.

Once we were all done eating, we began to walk through the city of Birmingham to begin some of our site seeing. The architechture here is nothing less then stunning. While some of the buildings have a new modern look, others have a classic timeless feel to them. There are so many people here sitting outside, riding bikes/scooters, rollerblading and just overall interacting with the city. One thing I specifically enjoyed was the art mueseum which had a “elephant in the room” section of the exhibit. It featured stolen items from acrossed the world and owned up to the original history and cultural significance of the items.

Some other things we saw while on our walk included, bull statues, churches, shopping malls, double decker busses, the Metro, fountains and many restaurants. This made me excited to see where I want to go to try foods and find little gifts to take back to my friends and family. Some coffee shops were also pointed out that I need to try because I feel like sleeping is not going to be very plentiful on this trip.

Lastly, a random topic I thought would be important to include is that the birds are extremely domesticated and are NOT scared of people. I learned that after one almost hit my head while site seeing. For any future visitors, make sure to always check to see if a bird is flying at you…
