Day 10: Athletic Club

Today’s activities started off with a lecture on balance and the different things that can inhibit balance. Examples of this include neurological problems, vestibular problems, or muscular problems. We then talked about different devices that have been created to help people regain balance depending on the cause of their loss of balance. One example of this was an omnidirectional treadmill that incorporated virtual reality for older patients with a history of falling. Through supporting the patients weight and simulating the process of walking normally, it allowed older patients to regain their confidence and their strength to walk without assistance.

Next, we looked at different ways that balance is assessed through different clinical test which we tried on ourselves. During the process of creating Oreka they used these tests on patients to test the initial balance and the improvement of balance after using Oreka. After looking at the data, we got to see the device itself, try its different movement patterns, and see the code behind it. Next, after lunch we got to actually go inside the soccer stadium of Athletic Club which is right by the school. Through the tour we got to see all the different parts of the stadium like the presidents box, the player’s locker room, and the press conference room. I also got to see the locker of one their best players, Nico Williams which was pretty cool!
